Ortho-K Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does Ortho-K work?
A: Specially designed shaping lenses gradually reshape the cornea, similar to lasers in reversing nearsightedness, however, unlike surgery, the effect is temporary and is reversible.
Q: Is Ortho-K permanent?
A: The treatment is only maintained by wearing the lenses overnight. If the lenses are not worn, the cornea will simply go back to the old shape.
Q: How long does it take for the process to stabilize and give good vision for the whole day?
A: Typically, four to seven consecutive nights of wear will achieve good results.
Q: How much correction will I realistically be able to expect using Ortho-K?
A: The upper limit is around 5.00 diopters of myopia reduction. Lower amounts are faster and easier to correct.
Q: Will Ortho-K correct astigmatism?
A: It depends on the amount of astigmatism and the type. Please consult the doctor as there are several types of astigmatism.
Q: If I decide to go back to wearing glasses, can my vision be restored as it was before treatment?
A: Yes. It typically takes about two weeks for the eye to go back to its original shape.
